GANGLOINEUROMA IN THE RETROPERITONEUM

Abstract
This is a case of ganglioneuroma, arising in the retroperitoneum of 7+ years old boy. The mass was palpated at his age of 4 then slowly growing up to date of admisssion. No specific treatment such as chemotherapy or radiation therapy was established before his admission.
Excised mass measured 13 X 7 X 8 cm. in the greatest dimenions with weight of 500g, and well on capsulated. Grossly it was globular, rubbery consistency and grayish to pale pinkish in color on the cut surface with focal cystic change. Histologic finding reveals well differentiated ganglion cells, intermixedn in the collagenous fibrillar network in the majority of the field, while focally remained clumps of neuroblasts are seen.
Based on clinical history and histologic appearance, it is highly suggested that this is a one of rare instance of spontaneous maturation of neuroblastoma, transformed into ganglioneuroma.
